Hard to say if history will be made with two brothers coaching against each other in a first for the Super Bowl. But first, they must each weather the storm by winning championship games that no one picks them to win. Well, there is a first for everything. My guess is this will be one of the best days for football in close to a decade. And it won't be because New York and New England will be in it. No. It would be understandable as the east coast bias has force-fed us this, even with both New York and New England making excellent showings in their respective play-off games. That would go without saying. But what is it about the Harbaugh Brothers that has them defying the odds and both getting to their Championship games without anyone believing they would be there. Maybe the sheer determination of the two would be enough. Their very spirits conj-or up mythological visions. Add Comment Alex Smith proves the critics wrong! 01/16/2012
If you thought Alex Smith had "small hands". His arm wasn't strong enough. He didn't have enough "zip" on his balls. He couldn't win the "big games". He didn't have heart. He lacked the skill set to get it done. Well, enjoy, all you Niner Nation faithful. Relish the moment. Be grateful for what we have. The greatest play-off game in 49er history. Even Joe didn't have to do the come-back drive TWICE in the last two minutes. TWICE. Alex will forever go down in Niner history for his 28 yard touchdown run to take the lead with just over 2 minutes, but then to have to do it again, with a minute and 85 yards to go! Were you hoping for a field goal. Were you praying for overtime. No. If you were like me and never gave up on the kid with the greatest work ethic that defined "blue collar" Harbaugh ball, you looked forward to this drive. You knew he could do what he always had in him. Get that ball to Vernon, put it in there not once but twice, with pin-point LASER accuracy. And win the game. Welcome back Niner Nation. Welcome home to the NFC championship! Yes. 04/29/2011
Colin Kaepernick. I know there are going to be some Raider Haters out there, but if the Niners couldn't get Andy Dalton in the 2nd they had to take the QB that most pro's had as a more athletic, well spoken, intelligent version. Bengals and Niners of old? I don't think so. QB time! 04/29/2011
Now we know that no one really stuck out to coach Harbaugh or we wouldn't be looking at this in the second round. One things for certain, no one saw 4 QB's going in the top 12. But that leaves a frightful outlook for the 49ers with the 13th overall pick today in round two. Let's face it, picking will be slim. Best case scenario, Kaepernick or Dalton will be available at 45. I don't like anyone else at that pick, but if both QB's are gone by that spot, then we better move on Stanzi. Fact is that only David Carr is nailed down for next year and in the modern era of QB break-downs, every team needs a good number two QB. The Niners won't even have a good number one if they pick up a Dalton or Kaepernick. Instead they will have a good guy for possibly year two or three. Where does that leave us? Well, not looking good. Free agency is up in the air. Carr at best is a serviceable back-up. We could be sunk. We'll have to see if the Niners coach can really "coach-up" one of these young rookies and make them into a starter. De ja vu all over again? Maybe. I'm hoping it works out. If all three of these likely 2nd rounders are gone, we could be up a creek without an arm. Aldon Smith? Maybe the next Charles Haley. 04/28/2011
Here it is ladies and gents... at number 7 the Niners pick... Aldon Smith. Really? Let that sit with you for a bit. Aldon Smith. No one had him in the 1st that high. Could have traded down for him... wow. Draft Day 2011 04/28/2011
Well, here we go. It's official, this blog is up and running on probably the second most important day in recent Niner history. And that being the hiring of Coach Harbaugh was the most important day, we'll see if the Niners get this right today. At 7, we know that they can quite possibly get the best QB of this years draft. With Cam Newton going most likely at number one and by no means is he the number one QB, the Niners have a 1 in 6 chance of getting the best QB available. However, it is likely that Blaine Gabbert is going to be considered the best QB and unfortunately all signs are pointing to him going to Arizona at 5. If that's the case the Niners may be screwed because most mock drafts have the likes of Jake Locker and even Andy Dalton going in the first round. If Patrick Peterson is available, they'll take him and if not Prince Amukamara may be the other CB they take. So, if a QB gets picked up in round 2 it is likely going to be slim picking at the 45th pick on Friday night. With Ryan Mallet and Christian Ponder possibly still being available, the obvious pick would be Ponder. But we'll see. No matter what happens, we know Coach Harbaugh will be likely grooming the QB of the future and that's a good thing. | AuthorJoseph Felice, a huge fan of your San Francisco Forty Niners, fancies himself the original creator of the Niner Nation. That based on the fact that all his buddies being part of the Raider Nation, Joseph coined the phrase "Niner Nation" in 1999 to mess with all the Haters. Proof of that fact was born years ago in 2003, when NinerNation.com was born! ArchivesCategoriesAll |
